Frequently Asked Questions..

  • Do you currently have any puppies available?
    • Please visit our Labrador Puppies pages for details on currently available puppies.

  • What is meant by the colors indicated next to the puppy's picture?

    • Each puppy is given a color-coded collar when their first pictures are taken so that we can identify which puppy is which within the litter.  The pictures are titled with the corresponding "titles", i.e., Girl-Pink indicates that female puppy has a pink-colored collar on.  This enables us also to continue to observe a certain puppy's development, both physically and characteristically.

  • What is the difference between "On Hold" and "Sold" next to the price of the puppies?

    • "On Hold" indicates that a deposit has been received for a particular puppy.  The puppy is listed as "Sold" when the puppy is paid for in full and has been picked up by his/her new family.  Sometimes a reservation for a puppy is made and the family changes their mind switching to a different available puppy because of many different reasons, which may include color, size or temperament.  So even though a puppy is on hold, he or she may become available again for adoption.

  • How much do the puppies cost?

    • Please refer to the “Available Puppies” tab which will also include prices.

  • Do you microchip the puppies?

    • Yes, all puppies are now microchipped prior to going home.  We use AKC Re-Unite Indigo ISO Microchips, and information on registering that microchip into your name will be included in your go-home book.

  • At what age can the puppies go home?

    • Puppies are fully weaned and ready to go to their new homes at eight weeks of age.  There are no exceptions to this as it is now a Texas state law.

  • Are all of your adults and puppies AKC registered?

    • Yes.  All our adults are purebred AKC (American Kennel Club) registered.

  • How do I reserve a puppy?

    • Deposit/Reservations:  Deposits and reservations are not accepted until the litter has arrived.  I no longer will be keeping any kind of wait list or interested list as it just takes too much time to follow up on requests.   A week before a litter arrives, you can request by email to be notified when that litter has arrived, but there are no guarantees you will get first pick.   To reserve a puppy, the deposit fee is one-half the cost of the puppy, with the balance due when you pick up your puppy.  You must designate what color, sex, and mother of the puppy you are reserving.

  • What is your refund policy on deposits?

    • We realize that things come along in life and sometimes it is necessary to put your puppy plans on hold for a while.  We will be happy to refund your deposit in full up until the puppy reaches seven weeks of age.

  • Do you take checks/Pay Pal?

    • Yes.  We take cash, personal checks, money orders, cashier’s checks, and Pay Pal online as well as credit/debit cards in person.

      • I cannot take a credit card over the phone.
  • How do I purchase a puppy/get on the waiting list?

    • First you need to talk with us.   Then to make a deposit/reservation, you can place it through PayPal which also accepts credit/debit cards, or by check.  Be sure to indicate which puppy, color and sex, and the parents you are making the reservation for.  Checks should be made payable to Twilight Run, Inc. and sent to:

        • Twilight Run, Inc.

          2462 County Road 551

          Farmersville, TX  75442

      • To hold a reservation, remember to include the mother’s name, sex, and color.

  • Do you have a health guarantee?

    • Absolutely!  We stand behind our puppies 100%.  Please see our Health Guarantee, a copy of which can be found online under Health Guarantees.

  • What do you feed your puppies?

    • We use Diamond Naturals Large Breed Puppy Food.  You will also get a small bag to take home with you at the time you take your puppy home.

  • What do you feed your adults?

    • Labrador Retrievers: Diamond Naturals Large Breed Lamb/Rice

    • Miniature Schnauzers:  Diamond Naturals Small Breed.

  • Where are you located?

    • Twilight Run Kennels is approximately 30 miles northeast of Dallas.  We are 20 miles east of McKinney and 3 miles south of Farmersville.  We are approximately 15 miles north of Wylie.

  • What hours are you open?

    • We are here 24/7.  We do not have regular “open” hours as we do not have puppies continuously year-round, but we typically show our puppies and adults from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. by appointment.  Please note although we'll allow a quick peek to newborn puppies, you will not be allowed to hold them until they are at least “four” weeks of age.  We will be happy to set up an appointment for you to see our puppies and/or adult dogs.

    • We respectfully ask that you “not” visit any other kennels on the day that you visit our kennel.  We work very hard to keep our exposure to outside health issues that may affect small puppies to a minimum, and we know that other breeders would appreciate the same courtesy.

  • Are the puppies wormed?

    • Most definitely.  Our kennel is on a 40-acre farm and as such we have other animals and critters around making worms inevitable.  We worm the puppies twice from 4-6 weeks of age.  The worming information is included in your take-home packet along with the shot records.

  • Do your puppies come with full AKC registration?

    • Puppies come with limited AKC registration.  Full AKC registration is available at an additional cost.  Please discuss ahead of time with us.

  • Do you give the puppies their first vaccination?

    • Yes.  Puppies come with their first set of puppy shots.  We use Nobivac DA2PPv (Distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus).  A copy of the vaccination as well as worming information we administer is included in the new puppy owners take-home packet.   If you puppy is older than eight weeks old, he/she will be current on their puppy vaccinations.   For reference, puppies receive a set of four puppy vaccinations from eight weeks old to 16 weeks old when their immune system is fully developed.

  • When will their next vaccination be due?
    • We have found that vets vary in their vaccination scheduling so we recommend that you contact your vet prior to taking the puppy home, and schedule an appointment to take your puppy in for its booster shot based on their recommendations.

  • Do you protect against parasites at your kennel?

    • Absolutely.  Parasites are a common organism, as are worms, and all breeders should protect their puppies from worms and parasites.  We administer Panacur, Metronidazole, and Toltrazuril.  They're expensive, but it’s worth it!

  • Should I take my puppy to the vet right away?

    • Your puppy will have had all of the health requirements administered that will ensure that you take home a happy, healthy puppy.  As part of the health guarantee, you will have seven days to take your puppy to the veterinarian of your choice for a puppy check-up.

  • What is included in the new owners take-home packet?

    • Twilight Run Puppy Health Guarantee/Contract
    • A copy of the Pedigree
    • Registration Papers from the American Kennel Club
    • Shot record
    • Information on registering the microchip
    • Articles we hope you’ll find informative and helpful
    • Small bag of Diamond Naturals Puppy Food (Large Breed for the labs; Small Breed for the schnauzers)
    • And, of course, a "baby blanket" that the entire litter has slept with.,
  • Do you remove the dewclaws on the Labs?

    • Yes
  • Do you board dogs?

    • At this time we are offering boarding of dogs/puppies that were purchased from us and their housemates only.  Please email or call to check on rates and schedules.

  • Are you a puppy farm?

    • NO!  In a puppy farm/mill you will find small cages stacked, the dogs receive little to no exercise and little to no human contact.  The dogs are unclean and receive lack of physical care.  Here at Twilight Run we invite you to come and visit if at all possible to see our facilities.  Every part of our facility is cleaned daily.   Our daily routine is such that the dogs are exercised each day going for walks through the fields in groups of four to six where they can interact with us, play catch, go swimming, and just plain run.  After their walks, they are released into large play yards to spend their day lounging in the sun or playing together with their toys.  In the nighttime they are kenneled for their safety and to enable us to check each one for any health problems that may be surfacing.  All our dogs here are our pets and we couldn’t love each and every one of them more.  They are our number one priority and making sure they live a healthy and happy life is our goal.  We really enjoy what we do and we think it shows!
